Dhaka: National Consensus Commission Vice-Chairman Professor Ali Riaz today expressed hope that the National Charter would fulfill the people’s aspirations for state reform. He shared this optimism during the commission’s discussion with the National Democratic Movement (Bangladesh)-NDM at the LD Hall of the Parliament Building, as stated in a press release issued by the National Consensus Commission (NCC).

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Prof Riaz emphasized unity despite differing perspectives during discussions with political parties. He stated, “We may sit on opposite sides of the table in discussions with political parties, but we are not opposite to one another. We are one side and have a common goal – to find a clear path toward state reform and to create a national charter.” He acknowledged minor differences in their approaches but stressed that these can be resolved through dialogue, reinforcing unity based on shared goals.

The meeting was attended by key figures including Safar Raj Hossain, Dr Iftekharuzzaman, and Special Assistant to the Chief Advisor Monir Haider. The NDM-Bangladesh delegation was led by founder and Chairman Bobby Hajjaj and included Secretary General Mominul Amin, Vice-Chairman Faruk Uz Zaman Chowdhury, Joint Secretary General Syed Jahangir Alam, and Organizing Secretary Barrister Shahidul Azam, among others.

The reform commissions, including the Constitutional Reform Commission, Public Administration Reform Commission, Electoral Reform Commission, Judiciary Reform Commission, and Anti-Corruption Commission, have submitted their recommendations. These recommendations have been sent to 39 political parties in spreadsheet form, requesting specific opinions.

To date, the National Consensus Commission has received feedback from 34 parties and has engaged in discussions with nine political parties. The Consensus Commission is scheduled to hold discussions with the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) on April 17.
