Dhaka: BNP Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Ahmed today stated that the nation will not forgive if fascism returns due to political disunity. He emphasized the importance of unity among political parties to prevent the resurgence of the fascist Awami League. Salahuddin made these remarks at the anniversary program of the newspaper Naya Diganta at the Shilpakala Academy in the capital.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Salahuddin stressed the need for unity in the face of differing opinions, stating that all parties must come together to protect the country's independence and sovereignty. He highlighted the importance of closing all avenues for the return of the fascist Awami League to preserve democracy.
Salahuddin shared his personal experiences, recounting how he endured nine and a half years in exile and imprisonment for his writings. He recalled being held alongside Mahmudur Rahman, the editor of Amar Desh, during a hunger strike and persuading him to end his fast to avoid pleasing their adversaries.
Emphasizing the importance of building a new Bangladesh, Salahuddin urged for a focus on the legacy of the July Uprising and the sacrifices made during the student movement. He called for a commitment to establishing a truly democratic society and government for future generations.
Salahuddin concluded by urging unity, reminding everyone of the promises made with the blood of their children to honor the nation's history and secure its democratic future.
