DHAKA, May 24, 2017 (BSS) - Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammad Nasim today urged the WHO to raise assistance for the south-east Asian countries to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030.
"Bangladesh's success in achieving MDGs has set up an example across the world...Bangladesh is pledge bound to achieve the SDGs under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina," said the minister.
He was addressing the plenary session of 70th conference of the World Health Organization (WHO) at Geneva in Switzerland.
With Russian Health Minister Veronica Skvortsova in the chair, health ministers from more than 190 countries and health experts, among others, joined the conference.
WHO Director General Margaret Chan inaugurated the conference on May 22.
Nasim told the conference that many contaminated diseases have eradicated from the country. The United Nations (UN) has presented a special award to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for reducing child mortality rate, he added.
About 100 percent child throughout the country has already come under the programme of vaccination, he told the conference.
