Narail: Narail Free Day will be observed tomorrow, marking the liberation of the area from Pakistan occupation forces on December 10, 1971. On this day, freedom fighters raised the flag of independent Bangladesh in the town, signifying a pivotal moment in the region’s history.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the district administration has organized a series of events to commemorate this significant occasion. The day’s activities will include placing wreaths at the ‘Baddhovumi’ near the judge’s court and at the mass graveyard on the Water Development Board premises. This will be followed by a discussion session in the deputy commissioner’s conference room, with DC Dr. Mohammad Abdul Salam scheduled to attend.

Liberation War records indicate that the Pakistan army initially set up camps with local collaborators in the Rupganj area, carrying out acts of genocide. However, on December 8, 1971, freedom fighters launched an attack on Lohagora Thana, gaining control. The subsequent days saw further liberation efforts in Kalia.

On December 9 and 10, 1971, freedom fighters strategically positioned themselves near the Narail Water Development Board, engaging in combat with the Pakistan forces. The confrontation ended with the capture of 40 Pakistani soldiers by the freedom fighters, leading to the eventual liberation of the area as villagers surrounded the town, supporting the freedom fighters’ efforts to gain control and raise the flag of independent Bangladesh.
