Naogaon: Abu Bakkar Siddique Nannu and Mamunur Rahman Ripon have been elected president and general secretary of Naogaon District Unit of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), respectively. The district BNP biennial council was held after 15 years in a festive and peaceful atmosphere, culminating in the announcement of election results around midnight.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Abu Bakkar Siddique Nannu, who previously served as the convener of the district BNP convening committee, secured the presidency with 647 votes. His opponent, Nazmul Haque Soni, a former district BNP president and ex-mayor of Naogaon Municipality, garnered 400 votes. Meanwhile, Mamunur Rahman Ripon, who was the former joint convener of the committee, was elected as general secretary, receiving 692 votes. His closest competitor, Bayezid Hossain Palash, the former member secretary of the convening committee, collected 671 votes.
In addition to the president and general secretary, other positions were filled during the election. Nur-e Alam Mithu was elected as the 1st Organizing Secretary with 841 votes. Shafiul Azam VP Rana and Khairul Alam Golden were elected as the 2nd and 3rd Organizing Secretaries with 630 and 573 votes, respectively.
The conference was inaugurated at 1 pm by Freedom Fighter Abdus Salam, BNP Rajshahi Division in-charge and Chairperson's Advisory council member. The national and party anthems were performed to mark the beginning of the event. BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman participated virtually as the chief guest, addressing the conference attendees.
