Dhaka: Sumaiya Tahmid Zafrin, wife of Major Sadikul Haque, who is currently under military custody, has provided a confessional statement in a case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act. The case revolves around a secret meeting allegedly organized by activists of the banned group Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL).

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Zafrin's statement was recorded by Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sarah Farjana Haque under section 164. This happened after police presented Zafrin before the court following the conclusion of her five-day remand in connection with the case, requesting the court to document her confession.

Previously, on August 7, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Sefatullah had placed the 26-year-old Zafrin on a five-day remand. She was detained by the Detective Branch (DB) of police on August 6 from the Mirpur DOHS area of the capital.

The case statement details that approximately 300 to 400 individuals, including leaders and activists of the Awami League and BCL, along with some retired government officials, attended a covert day-long meeting on July 8 at the KB Convention Centre near Bashundhara Residential Area. The meeting allegedly aimed to devise conspiracies against the government, including a plan to incite unrest in the capital by besieging the Shahbagh area, ultimately seeking to facilitate Sheikh Hasina's return to the country.

The case was filed by Sub-inspector Jyotirmoy Mondal of Bhatara Police Station on July 13.
