Nanak urges people to discard polythene

DHAKA, Textiles and Jute Minister Jahangir Kabir Nanak, MP, today urged people not to use polythene in order to protect the environment. "The polythene is very harmful for environment . . . Use jute-made bags instead of polythene," he said while talking to journalists at his Bangladesh Secretariat office here this afternoon. Nanak, also Awami League (AL) Presidium Member, said the entrepreneurs are investing in establishing polythene industries in different areas across the country, but this is very harmful for our environment. Terming the textiles and jute sector as potential one, the valiant freedom fighter said the incumbent government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is firm to protect this sector anyhow. The minister said the textiles and jute ministry has planned to establish jute bag industry in the country. Replying to a query of journalists, Nanak said the government will take necessary measures if any vested quarter illegally occupies the land of different industrial belts anywhere in the c ountry.
