Dhaka: Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology Adviser Md Nahid Islam has urged Saudi Arabia to invest in Bangladesh’s IT sector with a particular focus on high-tech parks. He expressed this during a meeting with Saudi Arabia’s Ambassador to Bangladesh, Essa Youssef Essa Al Duhailan, at the secretariat. Nahid emphasized the eagerness of the current government to strengthen its relationship with Saudi Arabia and ensure the continuation of all ongoing projects between the two nations.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Saudi Arabia’s Ambassador praised the interim government, expressing confidence in its ability to lead the country toward prosperity. He assured that Saudi Arabia stands with Bangladesh and will continue to offer support whenever needed. The ambassador highlighted the significant contribution of approximately 3.2 million Bangladeshis employed in Saudi Arabia, who annually send 5 billion US dollars in remittances through official channels and another 5 billion US dollars thro
ugh unofficial ones.
In response to the ambassador’s request to prioritize the passport renewal process for 69,000 unregistered individuals residing in Saudi Arabia, Nahid assured that the renewal process for Bangladeshi expatriates would be expedited. Ambassador Al-Duhailan also emphasized the importance of enhancing economic relations between the two countries and expressed Saudi Arabia’s interest in increasing investments in Bangladesh.
Furthermore, he mentioned that upon receiving a proposal from the ministry for investment in the IT sector, Saudi Arabia would consult with its IT experts to explore potential opportunities. Nahid assured that steps would be taken to prevent the spread of false information about any country, including Saudi Arabia, in Bangladeshi media. The meeting concluded with discussions focused on bilateral interests.
