Kingston: Fast bowler Nahid Rana registered his maiden five-wicket haul to help Bangladesh take the stranglehold of the second and final cricket Test against West Indies at the end of Day 3 at Sabina Park in Jamaica today. Rana claimed 5-61 to wrap up West Indies' first innings for 146, giving the side an 18-run lead. Bangladesh batters then played aggressively to reach 193-5, extending the overall lead to 211 at stumps. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Tigers were bowled out for just 164 in the first innings and were in danger of conceding a big lead. But Rana's lethal bowling put them in control. He clocked 150 kph on a regular basis, much to the dismay of the West Indies batters as Bangladesh found renewed hope to draw the series after losing the first Test by 201 runs. His sensational effort left the hosts jaded and out-of-sorts, forcing them to lose nine wickets for just 76 runs after resuming the day at 70-1. While Nahid Rana was fast and furious, troubling the batters with extreme pace, Taskin Ahmed and Hasan Mahmud, the other two pacers, complemented him with accurate bowling. Hasan had figures of 2-19 while Taskin finished with 1-20. Two spinners, Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Taijul Islam, also took one wicket apiece. With captain Kraigg Brathwaite at the crease, West Indies looked set for a lead, but Rana unsettled him with raw pace, which rose awkwardly, and the captain only managed to fend towards gully. Brathwaite added just 10 runs to his overnight total to be out on 39. Another overnight batter, Keacy Carty, showed much composure as Rana continued to wreak havoc on West Indies. Kevam Hodge poked a short-pitched delivery from Rana, as Liton took a stunning one-hand catch to add more misery to West Indies. Taskin Ahmed joined the party to remove Alick Athanaze by rattling his stump while left-arm spinner Taijul Islam got the better of Justin Greaves, who hit a century in the previous Test. Hasan Mahmud trapped Joshua Da Silva leg before and then ended Carty's resistance after he got a thin inside edge. Carty managed a team-best 40 off 115 with just one boundary. Rana then dismissed Alzzari Joseph before taking the wicket of Kemar Roach by trapping him leg-before to complete his five-wicket haul as Bangladesh earned a lead that was not on the cards. Brathwaite, Mikyle Louis, and Keacy Carty were the only three batters so far to reach double digits. Bangladesh lost opener Mahmudul Hasan for a duck in the first over of the second innings, but Shahadat Hossain Dipu, promoted to the No.3 position, counterattacked in style. Bangladesh adopted a policy of attack, considering that the pitch was not helpful enough to survive by playing traditional Test cricket. Dipu made 26-ball 28 before being dismissed by Shamar Joseph, but captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz continued from where Dipu left off. He further put West Indies bowlers in disarray by striking 39-ball 42 with the help of seven boundaries. Shadman Islam followed his first innings 64 with 46 in the second innings before being caught by Joshua Da Silva off Shamar Joseph. Jaker Ali Anik was batting on 29 with Taijul Islam on 9 when the bails were drawn.
