Nahid Islam Mourns Khaleda Zia’s Death, Highlights Her Role in Democracy

Dhaka: National Citizen Party (NCP) Convener Md Nahid Islam today expressed deep sorrow at the death of former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, describing her demise as the end of a long and eventful chapter in Bangladesh’s political history.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Nahid Islam, in a condolence message, stated that Khaleda Zia’s courageous leadership in anti-autocracy movements showed the people of the country the path to realizing democratic rights. He emphasized her significant role following the mass uprising of 1990, highlighting her contributions in establishing parliamentary democracy and restoring a democratic environment in Bangladesh.



Nahid Islam reflected on her long political career, acknowledging the repeated imprisonments and numerous hardships she endured while remaining unwavering in her political ideals and in defending the rights of the people. “She was uncompromising when it came to the sovereignty of the country and the nation,” he added.



The NCP leader emphasized that the contributions and struggles of Begum Khaleda Zia in the fight to establish democracy in Bangladesh would be remembered and preserved. He noted that her lifelong dedication to the welfare of the country and its people would continue to inspire future generations. “Her passing today marks the conclusion of a long and eventful chapter in Bangladesh’s political history,” he said.



Nahid Islam concluded by praying for the eternal peace of the departed soul and expressed his deepest sympathy to the bereaved family and her countless followers.
