Jhenidah: A motorcyclist was killed and another critically injured following a collision with a truck in Jhenidah town on Friday night. The tragic incident has drawn attention to road safety concerns in the area.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the deceased, identified as Shahriar Rahman Shanto, 31, was a resident of Dukkhi Mahmud Road in Arappur village. The injured individual, Toton Mia, is from the Beparipara area of Jhenidah town. The accident occurred around 10:00 pm in the Pabohati Kolarhat area within Jhenidah municipality.
Mrityunjoy Biswas, in-charge of Arappur Highway Police Camp, reported that the truck involved in the collision fled the scene after hitting the motorcycle, leaving both riders seriously injured. Swift action by locals led to the injured being taken to the Jhenidah 250-Bed General Hospital, where attending doctors declared Shanto dead upon arrival.
Emergency Medical Officer Dr. Tapas confirmed that Shanto had succumbed to his injuries before reaching the hospital. Toton Mia, requiring advanced medical care, was subsequently referred to Dhaka for further treatment.
