Cox’s bazar: A motorcyclist and his pillion passenger lost their lives in a head-on collision with a pickup van on the Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar highway. The tragic incident took place around 1:30 pm near the Kharulia area of Jhilongja union in the Sadar upazila.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the deceased have been identified as Md. Risan, aged 19, from Muktarkul area, and Md. Arafat, aged 21, from the Darga area of Jhilongja union. They were traveling with their friend Sani on a motorcycle heading towards Banglabazar station when the accident occurred. As they approached Kharulia High School, their motorcycle collided with an oncoming pickup van, resulting in severe damage to the motorcycle and critical injuries to all three riders.
The injured individuals were immediately taken to Cox’s Bazar District Sadar Hospital by locals. Unfortunately, Risan and Arafat were declared dead by the attending doctors. Sani remains in critical condition, according to medical staff.
Md. Nasir Uddin, Officer-in-Charge of Ramu Highway Crossing Police Station, confirmed the incident and stated that the bodies are currently at the morgue of Cox’s Bazar District Sadar Hospital. Investigations are ongoing, and legal proceedings related to the accident have been initiated.
