Dhaka: Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman today identified the three pivotal figures in his life as his mother, wife, and daughter. In a heartfelt message shared on his verified Facebook page in observance of International Women’s Day, Rahman expressed his commitment to ensuring opportunities, success, and happiness for these significant women in his life. He extended this sentiment to his readers, encouraging them to reflect on similar values.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Tarique Rahman’s reflections come against the backdrop of a challenging period post-1/11 political changeover when he sought medical treatment in London with his wife Zubaida Rahman and daughter Zaima Rahman. Rahman underscored the importance of empowering young women and girls in Bangladesh, advocating for their right to support and empowerment from society.

He emphasized the necessity for women to enjoy the same dignity, protection, and opportunities as men. On International Women’s Day, Rahman reaffirmed his dedication to fostering a just, tolerant, and respectful society, reminiscent of the former BNP government led by Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia. He envisioned a society free from discrimination based on gender, caste, or religion.

Highlighting the need for equal rights, Rahman stated, “Our girls should have equal opportunities like our boys. They should be able to come out of the house, use the internet without any harassment, and express their views without any fear.” He pointed out that BNP’s policies have consistently recognized women’s potential in a secure society.

Rahman mentioned initiatives like the ‘Family Card’ program, SME loans for women entrepreneurs, and educational and vocational projects aimed at empowering young women. He concluded his message by calling for collective efforts in promoting women’s economic empowerment, political participation, and personal aspirations.
