Cumilla: Defending champions Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited registered their first win in the Bangladesh Football League (BFL) by defeating their arch-rivals Abahani Limited Dhaka with a 3-2 scoreline in an engaging match at the Shaheed Dhirendranath Datta Stadium in Cumilla today.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the league resumed after a 33-day hiatus since October 20, with the match marking the end of the second round. Mohammedan's forward, Mohammad Rahim Uddin, opened the scoring in the 20th minute. Ghanaian defender Eli Keke Emmanuel extended the lead by netting the second goal for Mohammedan in the 32nd minute.
Mohammedan entered the second half with a 2-0 advantage and further increased their lead when Ghanaian forward Samuel Boateng scored the third goal in the 58th minute. Abahani, however, mounted a comeback as midfielder Papon Sing scored in the 73rd minute, followed by a goal from promising midfielder Sheikh Morsalin in the 78th minute to narrow the gap.
Looking ahead, Abahani Limited will face Police Football Club, while Mohammedan will play against Fakirerpool Young Men's Club on November 28 and 29, respectively.
