Bangkok: Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam has stated that during a bilateral meeting between Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the response from Modi regarding the extradition of Sheikh Hasina was not negative.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Alam conveyed that Modi showed respect towards Prof Yunus, as mentioned in a post on Alam’s verified Facebook account. During their discussion, Modi acknowledged his respectful relationship with Sheikh Hasina but noted her previous disrespectful behavior towards Prof Yunus. Despite this, Modi emphasized India’s continued respect for Yunus.

Alam further explained that Prof Yunus broached the topic of Sheikh Hasina’s extradition, to which Modi’s response was not negative. Alam expressed confidence that Hasina would eventually be extradited to Dhaka, leading to what he described as “the trial of the century.”

Moreover, Alam indicated that India is interested in developing a new path in its relationship with Bangladesh. Modi reiterated during the meeting that India’s relationship is with the people of Bangladesh rather than any specific political party or individual.

Prof Yunus has consistently stated in recent months that Bangladesh seeks the best possible relationship with India, emphasizing that it should be grounded in fairness, equity, and mutual respect. This bilateral meeting between Prof Yunus and Narendra Modi occurred during Yunus’s visit to Bangkok on Friday.
