Dhaka: Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister and BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, along with 14 others, has been honoured with the newly introduced 'Aposhhin Deshnetri Begum Khaleda Zia Smriti Shornapadak 2026'. This accolade recognizes their contributions to the nation and commemorates the legacy of former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the award was introduced by the New York-based Bangladesh Probashi Nagoric Committee, Inc. This initiative aims to annually honour distinguished individuals who have made significant contributions to Bangladesh in various fields. The list of this year's awardees includes Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Iqbal Hassan Mahmood Tuku, Women and Children Affairs Minister Dr AZM Zahid Hossain, and Adviser Ismail Jabiullah, among others.
Other notable recipients include State Minister for Youth and Sports Aminul Haque, Adviser Dr Mahdi Amin, and Kamal Uddin Shabuj, Managing Director and Chief Editor of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha. The award also recognized the efforts of Sanjida Islam Tuli, organizer of Mayer Daak, and Tamim Iqbal, president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). Celebrated litterateur Dr Mahbub Hasan, poet Abdul Hye Sikder, and journalist Ashraf Kaiser were also among the honorees.
In addition, industrialist Dr Abul Kashem Haider, businessman Abdul Haque, and Fatema Begum, who served as a personal assistant to Begum Zia, were acknowledged for their contributions. This award ceremony not only highlights the achievements of these individuals but also serves as a tribute to the enduring impact of Begum Khaleda Zia's leadership and vision.
