Dhaka: Minor plaster fell from a ceiling joint on the departure driveway of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) after this morning’s earthquake in Dhaka, prompting brief movement restrictions as a precaution, officials said. Executive Director of HSIA, Group Captain SM Ragib Samad, assured that there was no structural harm to the airport facilities. He stated, ‘Alhamdulillah, the runway, apron, and terminal interior sustained no damage. Flight operations remain normal.’

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, visible cracks appeared near the connecting area of Exit Gates 4 and 5, prompting airport authorities to cordon off the affected section and manage passenger flow to ensure safety. Witnesses reported that some passengers panicked and rushed outside immediately following the tremor.

Airport sources mentioned that a specialist team from BUET’s Civil Engineering Department has inspected the site to assess the nature and depth of the cracks. Necessary repairs or long-term measures will be taken once they submit their report.
