Dhaka: Health Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Husain and Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu visited the National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute on Tuesday morning to see victims of Chattogram and Cumilla fire incidents. The ministers arrived at the institute where its Director, Professor Dr Md Nasir Uddin, briefed them on the condition of the patients and the ongoing treatment.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the Health Minister assured reporters that the best possible treatment would be provided to all injured patients. Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu noted that gas leak-related accidents occur in different parts of the country annually. He emphasized that the Ministries of Industries, Health, and Disaster Management and Relief will collaborate to regulate expired gas cylinders properly. A joint meeting among the ministries is planned to formulate measures to reduce such accidents.

Professor Dr Md Nasir Uddin mentioned that the institute had been informed earlier about the Chattogram incident, allowing preparations to be made, including the deployment of additional medical staff. Tragically, one woman died on the way from Chattogram, while several patients are currently being treated in the ICU and HDU. Eight patients are under treatment in various categories.

The incidents stemmed from a gas explosion in the Halishahar area of Chattogram city early Monday, resulting in three deaths and six injuries. Additionally, four family members, including a woman and a child, were burned in a gas cylinder explosion in Daudkandi, Cumilla, early Tuesday. The injured victims from both incidents were transferred to the Burn Institute for further care.
