Dhaka:Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu has called for justice regarding crimes against humanity committed against the Rohingyas in Myanmar.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Dulu made this appeal during a meeting with Nicholas Koumjian, head of the Independent Investigative Mechanism for Myanmar (IIMM), at the Secretariat. During the meeting, the minister also urged the IIMM to advocate for the restoration of the legitimate rights of the forcibly displaced Rohingyas and to ensure their sustainable repatriation to Myanmar.
Koumjian reported that since the beginning of 2024, over 154,000 Rohingyas have crossed into Bangladesh, adding to the more than 1 million already living there. He noted that these individuals are unable to return safely to Myanmar due to ongoing violence and insecurity in Rakhine State. The situation underscores the connection between developments in Myanmar and the continued displacement of Rohingyas in Bangladesh.
