Dhaka: Another burn victim in the Milestone jet crash in the capital’s Uttara died today after fighting for 25 days for life at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery (NIBPS). Mahfuza (45), a teacher of the Milestone School and College, succumbed to her burn injuries at the burn institute around 12:45pm today, NIBPS Resident Surgeon Dr Shawon told BSS.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Mahfuza was on life support with 25 percent burn injuries. Dr Shawon mentioned that 23 burn victims from the crash are currently undergoing treatment at the burn institute, with one patient still in critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Furthermore, 14 burn survivors have been discharged from the institute.
Eighteen of the injured continue to receive treatment in various wards of the burn institute. A total of 19 victims have succumbed to their burn injuries at the institute, while one victim died at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH).
The tragic incident occurred on July 21 when a fighter jet of the Bangladesh Air Force crashed into a two-storey building of the Milestone School and College due to a mechanical fault shortly after takeoff around 1pm. The crash has claimed the lives of 35 individuals so far, as confirmed by Health and Family Welfare Ministry sources. The pilot of the fighter jet, Flight Lieutenant Towkir Islam, also perished in the crash.
