Sylhet: Two mild tremors were felt in Sylhet's Beanibazar and Moulvibazar's Barlekha within a span of five minutes on Wednesday midnight, according to Earthquake Monitoring and Research Centre of the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the first tremor occurred at 2:50:31 am, with its epicentre in Beanibazar, Sylhet, measuring 3.5 on the Richter scale. Another tremor followed five minutes later, at 2:55:14 am, originating from Barlekha in Moulvibazar, with a magnitude of 3.3 on the Richter scale.
Rubaiyat Kabir, the acting officer of the Earthquake Monitoring Centre, informed BSS today that mild tremors are often felt in these areas of the Himalayan foothills, including Myanmar, Assam, Tripura, and Sylhet. He noted that such mild earthquakes usually do not cause any damage and there is no reason for panic.
