Mehidy Miraz achieves 2 milestones with blazing century against India

Mehidy Hasan Miraz is in fantastic form right now. He has been proving everyone wrong by continuously putting on a brilliant display with the bat. After a match-winning knock in the first ODI against India, Mehidy Hasan came with even more aggression in the second match, hitting his first ODI hundred. With this century, Miraz has achieved two personal milestones.

What milestones has Miraz accomplished by scoring a hundred against India?

When Mehidy Hasan Miraz came to the crease, Bangladesh were 69/6 at the end of 19 overs. At that stage, everyone was understandably expecting Bangladesh’s innings to end in a low total like the first match.

But a brilliant 148-run stand between Mehidy Hasan Miraz and the experienced Mahmudullah Riyad changed the scenario of Bangladesh’s innings completely. Riyad went back to the pavilion in the 47th over after playing a 77-run inning. Mehidy Miraz, on the other hand, remained unbeaten until the end with 100* and led Bangladesh to a challenging 271-run target to defend.

Miraz was cautious initially but later came out with a lot of aggression against the Indian bowling lineup. His unbeaten 100* was achieved in 83 balls, with eight boundaries and four sixes.

With this magnificent knock, Mehidy Miraz reached two milestones. He became the first Bangladesh player to score an ODI hundred while batting at No. 8 or lower. Besides, he is also the second player in history to score an ODI hundred while batting at No. 8.

Ireland’s Simi Singh was the first cricketer to score an ODI hundred while batting at No. 8 against South Africa on July 16, 2021. Though his hundred went in vain eventually, Ireland lost the contest by 70 runs.
