Dhaka: A medical board has decided to perform brain surgery on Prime Minister’s political adviser and BNP Standing Committee member Mirza Abbas, who is undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital in the capital.

According to United News of Bangladesh, BNP Health Affairs Secretary Dr Rafiqul Islam announced on Friday that the decision for surgery was made after a thorough review of all medical reports. He stated that Abbas was taken to the operation theatre at around 3:10 pm, following the board’s conclusion.

Dr Rafiqul Islam explained that the medical board, composed of specialist doctors, made the decision in light of the critical condition of the BNP leader. Abbas underwent a CT scan in the morning, which revealed a deterioration in his condition, prompting the board to convene virtually and agree on the surgery. Consent for the procedure was also obtained from his family members.

The medical board includes prominent neurologists such as Prof Ali Uzzaman Zowarder, Prof Kazi Din Mohammad, Prof Shahabuddin Talukder, Prof Raziul Haque, Prof Syed Saeed Ahmed, Prof Kader Sheikh, and Prof Shafiqul Islam, along with doctors from Evercare Hospital.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman visited Evercare Hospital after Juma prayers and was briefed by the medical board regarding Abbas’s condition. Dr Rafiqul urged the public to pray for the recovery of Mirza Abbas, who was admitted to the hospital in Bashundhara on Wednesday evening after suddenly falling ill and losing consciousness during iftar.
