Dhaka: The Media Freedom Coalition (MFC) today strongly condemned last night’s attacks on journalists, editors, and media houses in Bangladesh, calling the violence a grave threat to press freedom and the public’s right to be informed.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Media Freedom Coalition issued a statement denouncing the violence and intimidation against media professionals as unacceptable. The coalition emphasized that such acts strike at the core of press freedom and the public’s right to access information.
The coalition urged authorities to prioritize the safety and security of all media professionals and called for swift, independent, and impartial investigations to ensure those responsible are brought to justice. The statement highlighted the necessity for journalists to operate without fear to uphold the rule of law, democratic values, and an informed society.
The MFC is a partnership of countries that actively advocate for media freedom both domestically and internationally. It also campaigns for the protection of journalists and media workers, holding accountable those who perpetrate harm and severely hinder them from performing their duties.
