Measles: Death Toll Hits 997

Dhaka: Three children died with measles-like symptoms in the 24 hours until 8:00 am on Monday, taking the country’s combined number of confirmed and suspected measles-related deaths to 997 this year.



According to United News of Bangladesh, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) reported that the latest fatalities were classified as suspected measles deaths, with no confirmed deaths reported during the period. This brings the total number of suspected measles deaths to 897, while confirmed deaths from measles remain unchanged at 100.



A significant 1,156 new suspected measles cases emerged during the 24-hour period, escalating the cumulative number of suspected cases nationwide to 165,304. Concurrently, 60 new confirmed measles cases were recorded, increasing the total number of laboratory-confirmed infections to 19,756.



Since March 15 this year, a total of 145,270 patients with suspected measles have been hospitalized across the country, with 139,831 having recovered, as per DGHS data.
