Martyred Intellectuals Day Commemorated Across Bangladesh with Solemn Tributes

Narail: The Martyred Intellectuals Day was observed in various districts, paying homage to intellectuals killed by the Pakistan occupation forces and their collaborators at the end of Bangladesh’s Liberation War in 1971. The nation recalled the mass killing of the country’s top intellectuals by the Pakistan army, just two days prior to Dhaka becoming the capital of a liberated Bangladesh.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, different programmes were organized to mark the day. Political and socio-cultural organizations held various events in observance of the day. In Narail, the day was observed with dignity and solemnity. Wreaths were laid at the killing ground adjacent to the District Judge Court and the mass grave on the premises of the Water Development Board Office. Deputy Commissioner Dr. Mohammad Abdul Salam led the ceremonies, attended by Zilla Parishad Chief Executive Officer Md. Asaduzzaman, Superintendent of Police Mohammad Al Mamun Sikder, and other officials and dignitaries. A discussion meeting followed, emphasizing the significance of the day and the contributions of the intellectuals.



In Chuadanga, Martyred Intellectuals Day was observed with respect and solemnity. A discussion meeting was held at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, attended by Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Kamal Hossain and presided over by Additional Deputy Commissioner Nayan Kumar Rajbangshi. Attendees included Police Superintendent Mohammad Monirul Islam and freedom fighters. Speakers highlighted the day’s significance, and a special prayer was conducted for the welfare of the country and the souls of the martyred intellectuals.



In Rangamati, the day was observed with solemnity and respect. A discussion meeting was organized by the district administration, chaired by Deputy Commissioner Najma Ashrafi. The event was attended by Police Superintendent Muhammad Abdur Rakib and other officials. Speakers paid tribute to the martyred intellectuals and emphasized the need to uphold their ideals. Various programmes, including the hoisting of the national flag at half-mast, were organized across the district.



In Natore, the day was observed with solemnity and respect for the martyred intellectuals, alongside a pledge to uphold national values. A discussion meeting was held at the DC Office, presided over by Deputy Commissioner Asma Shaheen. Speakers emphasized the sacrifices of the martyred intellectuals and called upon citizens to draw inspiration from their patriotism. The meeting was moderated by Additional Deputy Commissioner Md. Abul Hayat.



The Martyred Intellectuals Day was also observed in Cumilla, Barishal, Barguna, Kurigram, Meherpur, Bogura, Sirajganj, Noakhali, Kishoreganj, Satkhira, Sunamganj, and Gazipur districts.
