Dhaka: Critically wounded Inquilab Mancha leader and election candidate of a parliamentary constituency in Dhaka, Sharif Md Osman Hadi’s condition remains unchanged as he receives treatment at Dhaka’s Evercare Hospital.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the medical board overseeing Hadi’s treatment stated that his condition remains unchanged. They noted that if there is any improvement, Hadi may be taken abroad for advanced treatment. However, a repeat CT scan conducted in the morning revealed that brain swelling has further increased, indicating a highly alarming clinical condition.
Hadi, a key figure in last year’s July Uprising, was shot in the head at close range on Friday while campaigning in the Bijoynagar area of the capital. This incident occurred a day after the Election Commission announced the schedule for the upcoming polls.
The statement from the medical board detailed that a necessary surgical operation was successfully performed on Friday when Hadi was initially shot. He was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital before being transferred to Evercare Hospital for advanced post-operative care and intensive monitoring.
The CT scan conducted early today showed an increase in cerebral edema, signaling an extremely worrying clinical situation. Despite these challenges, Hadi’s lung function and mechanical ventilator status remain stable, with no significant change.
The statement also noted that Hadi’s chest drain tube is functional, and his kidney function is maintained, though his creatinine level has slightly decreased. Due to the brain injury, some hormonal imbalances have developed, affecting his urine output. Doctors are closely monitoring his acid-base balance, fluid status, and electrolytes for necessary treatment.
The imbalances related to blood clotting and bleeding are largely under control. However, due to brain stem injury and pressure from excessive brain swelling, fluctuations in Hadi’s blood pressure and a higher-than-normal heart rate have been observed. Doctors are providing the necessary medical support to maintain blood pressure and cardiac stability.
Hadi’s blood sugar levels are also being closely monitored, as fluctuations are a known clinical challenge in such complex and critical conditions. The patient’s overall condition remains extremely critical, but the medical board is working tirelessly with the highest professionalism to ensure Hadi receives the best possible treatment.
The medical board stated that if Hadi’s family or the government wishes to have him transferred abroad for advanced treatment, they would provide full cooperation. The patient’s family has been informed in detail about his current condition.
The statement also urged the public not to crowd the hospital unnecessarily and to refrain from spreading speculative or misleading information. The medical board earnestly requested prayers from the people for Hadi’s speedy recovery.
According to police, Hadi was traveling in a rickshaw with another person when motorbike-riding armed assailants shot him in the Kalvert area of Bijoynagar and fled the scene.
