Khulna: BNP-nominated candidate for Khulna-2 and former parliamentarian Nazrul Islam Manju today declared his intention to maintain a controversy-free election campaign. Speaking at a meeting with journalists at the Khulna Press Club, Manju emphasized his commitment to excluding controversial figures from his campaign efforts.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Manju announced his plans to initiate vigorous election activities in collaboration with a united BNP team in the city. He acknowledged the challenges of the upcoming national elections and expressed optimism for a participatory poll. Highlighting the sacrifices made over the past 16 years, Manju noted the aspirations of the youth for a new Bangladesh and mentioned that Tarique Rahman would soon address the nation as part of the plans to rebuild the country.

Manju emphasized that this election cycle’s candidate selection was devoid of lobbying or business influences. He stated, “Tarique Rahman carefully considered grassroots opinions and finalized nominations based on three criteria.” He further elaborated on the unity within the party, asserting that while BNP is a broad platform with diverse opinions, leaders and activists will work cohesively under the city BNP leadership for the ‘sheaf of paddy’ symbol. Campaign activities, he assured, would be conducted in a coordinated manner.

Reflecting on his lengthy political career, Manju asserted, “In my 37 years in politics, I have maintained a clean record and always stood beside the people as a committed politician.” He outlined his development pledges for Khulna, including reopening closed mills, upgrading Mongla Port, promoting tourism, and improving road infrastructure, all through transparent and corruption-free processes.

Reiterating his commitment to a controversy-free campaign, Manju stated that no controversial figures would be permitted at the forefront of his efforts, and factional debates on social media have been discouraged. The meeting was attended by prominent party members, including former Khulna mayor and BNP leader Moniruzzaman Moni, senior BNP leaders Sekendar Zafrullah Khan Satchu, former councilor Mahbub Kaiser, ex-student leader Asaduzzaman Murad, and several other senior party members.
