Netrakona: A court here today sentenced a man to life-term imprisonment in a rape case in Mohanganj upazila of the district in 2012. Judge of Women and Child Abuse Prevention Tribunal Dr. AKM Emdadul Haque handed down the verdict this afternoon in presence of the convict.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the court also fined convict Rahmat Ali, 55, of Maizhati village of the upazila, Taka 50,000. In default, Ali will have to suffer two more years in jail, as stated by Public Prosecutor of the court Md. Nurul Kabir Rubel.
The prosecution detailed that Rahmat Ali picked up a first-grade student from her school ground on the morning of May 3, 2012, and raped the girl in a classroom of the school. The child was subsequently taken to a hospital.
Following the incident, the child’s mother filed a case with Mohanganj Police Station the next day, accusing Rahmat Ali. Police completed their investigation and submitted a charge-sheet before the court on April 10 of the following year.
After examining witnesses and evidence, the judge found the convict guilty and handed down the punishment.
