Jamalpur: A court here today sentenced a man to five years of imprisonment in a case lodged over the attempted rape of a schoolgirl in 2020. Judge of Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-1, Muhammad Abdur Rahim, pronounced the judgment.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the court also fined the convict Taka 20,000 to pay the victim. The convicted person was identified as Md Kholilur Rahman, 25, son of Md Babul Miah from Jhalur Char Modhyapara village in Dewanganj upazila of the district.
In brief, the prosecution story states that on March 30, 2020, Kholilur Rahman lured a neighboring girl, a student of class 10, into his room and attempted to rape her. However, the girl managed to escape from the scene.
Following the incident, the victim’s father filed a case with Dewanganj Model Police Station against Kholilur. After examining eight prosecution witnesses and relevant documents, the judge found him guilty and handed down the verdict.
