Dhaka: A Dhaka court today convicted and sentenced Md Motahar to death for the rape of his 14-year-old stepdaughter in 2021 in Keraniganj. Judge Munshi Md Moshiar Rahman of Dhaka Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-4 delivered the judgment with the convict present in court, subsequently sending him back to jail with a conviction warrant.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Md Motahar, 41, is the son of the late Rifaj Miah and originally comes from the village of Kurahar under Atmul union in Shibganj Police Station, Bogura. Case documents reveal that Motahar began harassing his stepdaughter shortly after marrying her mother. On the night of June 20, 2021, he raped the girl, threatening to kill her if she disclosed the assault. He raped her again on September 22, prompting the victim to confide in her mother.
Following the victim’s revelation, her mother filed a case with the South Keraniganj Police Station on September 24, 2021. Motahar was arrested, and he confessed to his crimes in court. Police subsequently filed a charge sheet against him. The court’s decision came after examining eight witnesses over several hearings.
