Kishoreganj:A court has sentenced a man to death for fatally stabbing his wife in the Bajitpur upazila in 2016.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Supriya Rahman, the judge of the Additional District and Sessions Judge Court-1, delivered the verdict against Ismail alias Sagar Mia. The convict, hailing from Uttar Sararchar village in Bajitpur upazila, was tried in absentia.
The case details reveal that Ismail had allegedly been abusing his wife, Jharna Akter, both physically and mentally since their marriage. On April 12, 2016, an argument erupted between the couple while Jharna was cooking at her father's house. During the altercation, Ismail stabbed her with a knife, resulting in critical injuries.
Jharna was immediately taken by her family to Bhagalpur Jahurul Islam Medical College Hospital, where she was pronounced dead by doctors. Following this tragic event, Jharna's mother, Zahera Begum, lodged a complaint with the Bajitpur Police Station.
