Man dies as two speedboats collide in Padma River

A 60-year-old man died and 2 others were injured after two speedboats collided in the Padma River in Faridpur's Char Bhadrasan upazila on Sunday morning.

The accident occurred around 10am near Charjhaukanda union of the upazila, said Mintu Mandol, officer-in-charge (OC) of Char Bhadrasan police station.

The deceased was identified as Sukumar Halder, son of Siris Halder of Guhalakshipur village of Faridpur sadar upazila.

The speedboat, carrying passengers, left Dohar's Moinot Ghat around 10am and collided head-on with another speedboat coming from the opposite direction in the Charjhaukanda area, leaving one dead and two others injured.

Injured Boby Akter, 35, and Barek Shikder, 60, of BS Dangi village, were admitted to Dhaka Mitford Hospital, added the OC.

Police have been sent to the spot, said the OC, adding that legal action will be taken in this regard.
