Dhaka: A solo photography exhibition by legendary photographer and Bangla Academy fellow Nasir Ali Mamun titled ‘Smriti-Bismritir Mukhochhobi’ has begun at Bangla Academy. The exhibition was inaugurated this morning at the Nazrul Stage of the academy, marking a significant event in the cultural calendar of the city.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the event was chaired by Bangla Academy President Abul Kashem Fazlul Haq, who noted that Nasir Ali Mamun is a well-known name among the educated society of the country. He mentioned that Bengalis living abroad are also familiar with Mamun’s work. Over the years, Mamun has been building a historic visual archive through the collection, preservation, and production of significant photographs.
Abul Kashem Fazlul Haq emphasized that by preserving photographs of various writers and literary figures, Mamun is creating a valuable repository for future generations. This collection will inspire renewed interest and curiosity about literary personalities among the youth.
Bangla Academy Director General Mohammad Azam spoke highly of Mamun, stating that he has long been a familiar figure to the people of the country. Azam mentioned his personal acquaintance with Mamun’s renowned portraits for the past three decades and praised Mamun’s relentless work in enriching the practice of photography in Bangladesh, even after earning the title of ‘legendary photographer.’
The exhibition, which began on April 14, will continue until April 30 at the Bardhaman House of Bangla Academy. It features more than a hundred photographs of eminent late poets, writers, essayists, researchers, and fiction writers of Bangladesh. Additionally, it showcases some rare photographs of the National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam for visitors.
