Dhaka: The male members of the July uprising martyred families will now benefit from the removal of the minimum age requirement of 65 years for purchasing family savings certificates. The Internal Resources Division (IRD) has issued a notification confirming this change.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the National Board of Revenue (NBR) had previously issued a special order exempting the family members of the July Uprising martyrs from the obligation to file an income tax return when purchasing savings certificates with state assistance money. This exemption aligns with the existing rules that allow women of any age to purchase family savings certificates, while previously restricting male buyers to those aged 65 and above.
The issuance of these two notifications signifies a significant change, enabling both male and female members of the martyr families to access family savings certificates with government grant money without the need to file an income tax return. This move follows the government's decision to relax the age limit for male members of the martyr families, providing them with greater financial flexibility and support.
