Dhaka: Expatriate Bangladeshis sent $226.73 million in remittances during the first four days of January in the 2024-25 fiscal year. This significant inflow underscores the vital contribution of overseas workers to the nation's economy.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, remittances channeled through state-owned and specialised banks totalled $82.31 million, while private banks received a larger share of $143.99 million. This distribution highlights the crucial role of both banking sectors in facilitating financial transactions from abroad.
From July to January 4 of the fiscal year, worker-remittance inflows reached approximately $14 billion. This figure reflects the ongoing reliance on expatriate contributions to bolster Bangladesh's foreign exchange reserves and support economic stability.
