DHAKA: Barrister AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon, President of the Bangladesh Supreme Court Bar Association, has called for the withdrawal of what he claims are false cases against former Chief Justice SK Sinha. He urged the government to facilitate Sinha's return to the country, emphasizing the need for justice and transparency.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Barrister Khokon addressed journalists at the Supreme Court premises, where he alleged that the previous Awami League government had compelled Justice Sinha to resign from his position and leave the country. Khokon further claimed that Sinha had been unjustly punished in cases that lacked merit.
Khokon also demanded an investigation into the individuals responsible for forcing Sinha to leave the country. He stressed the importance of accountability and called for action against those involved in what he described as a coercive campaign against the former Chief Justice.
In addition to advocating for Sinha, Khokon urged the government to bring back former District and Sessions Judge of Dhaka, Motahar Hossain. Hossain had acquitted BNP acting Chairman Tarique Rahman in a money laundering case, only to face pressure from the Awami League government, leading to his departure from the country. Khokon's demands highlight ongoing concerns about judicial independence and political influence in legal matters.
