Rangamati: A three-month-old infant died and five others of the family were wounded after being struck by lightning at Sajek Union under Baghaichhari upazila of the district in the early hours of today. The deceased, Ujjal Chakma, was the son of Nayan Chakma from the Bhaibachhara area of Sajek Union.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the injured family members are Pradip Chakma, Maya Rani Chakma, Nijum Chakma, Jerin Chakma, and Reshmi Chakma. Following the incident, local residents assisted in rescuing the injured family members and transported them to Khagrachhari Sadar Hospital in the neighboring Khagrachhari district, as stated by Sajek Union Parishad chairman Atulal Chakma.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sajek Police Station Tofazzal Hossain also confirmed the incident, highlighting the tragic impact of the lightning strike on the Chakma family. The community is grappling with the aftermath of the incident as efforts continue to provide medical care to the injured.
