Law Minister Announces Lottery System for Sub-Registrar Postings in Dhaka

Dhaka:Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Md Asaduzzaman announced a new initiative to increase transparency in the postings of sub-registrars, specifically in areas known as "prize postings" where corruption allegations are common.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the minister outlined a plan to introduce transparency through a lottery system for sub-registrar postings in Dhaka. This initiative aims to address negative perceptions surrounding these postings and improve the integrity of the system.

The announcement was made during a program at the ministry, where a lottery was conducted to select sub-registrars for key positions in Dhaka. Out of 131 'A-category' sub-registrars across the country, 18 were chosen through this lottery to be posted in Dhaka within the next week. The selection considered their competence, ability to manage workloads, and the specific needs of each office.

The minister emphasized that the selected officials would undergo 24-hour monitoring to ensure they perform their duties effectively. They will remain in their roles as long as they adhere to service rules and avoid corruption.

Ministry sources revealed that there are currently 372 sub-registrars employed nationwide, with 139 positions vacant. The lottery-selected sub-registrars are Md Golam Mortuza, Amaik Babu, Farida Akter, Ajay Kumar Saha, Amit Mangal Chakma, Md Russell Mallik, Gobinda Saha, Md Masum, SM Abu Musa, Naznin Jahan, Mohammad Hanif, Monisha Roy, Sing Mong Thowai, Rajib Majumdar, Ali Azgar, Sharmila Ahmed Shampa, Amina Begum, and Tinu Chakma.

The event was attended by Law and Justice Secretary Liaquet Ali Molla, Additional Secretary SM Ershadul Alam, Additional Secretary Md Khadem Ul Kayes, Inspector General of Registration Shamima Afroze, and other officials.
