Sylhet: Labour and Employment and Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Ariful Haque Chowdhury today emphasized the importance of language proficiency in securing overseas employment opportunities. He highlighted that learning languages such as Arabic, Japanese, and Korean could significantly enhance job prospects abroad.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the minister emphasized the increasing demand for skilled workers in countries like Japan, Malaysia, the Middle East, and various European nations. He stated that equipping the youth with necessary skills is crucial to meet this demand, suggesting that they should aim to work abroad not merely as ordinary laborers but as trained and skilled workers.
Minister Chowdhury proposed the implementation of upazila-based training programs to facilitate skill acquisition among local youth. He assured that necessary support from the ministry would be provided to implement such initiatives effectively.
Addressing past challenges, the minister pointed out that many Bangladeshis have been detained in various countries due to illegal travel or other complications. He noted the government’s commitment to addressing this issue by arranging for their phased return to Bangladesh, particularly for those unable to afford airfare and other expenses.
The event, organized by the Sylhet Zila Parishad, was chaired by Sylhet District Council Administrator Abul Kaher Chowdhury Shamim. Other notable attendees included BNP’s Central Co-Organizing Secretary Miftah Siddiqui, Sylhet Mohanagar Acting President Rezaul Hasan Kais Load, General Secretary Imdad Hossain Chowdhury, and former General Secretary Badruzzaman Selim.
