Dhaka: State Minister for Land and Chattogram Hill Tracts Affairs Barrister Mir Mohammed Helal Uddin today emphasized that illegal occupation of government land will no longer be tolerated. He stated that the government is committed to recovering illegally grabbed land and maximizing revenue, stressing that land tax will not be forgone on even an inch and that no one will be permitted to seize government land any longer.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the state minister made these remarks during a meeting focused on the Tea Garden Management and Climate Victims Rehabilitation Project (CVRP)-3 programme at his secretariat office. He highlighted the need to investigate the reasons behind the failure to generate revenue from many tea gardens over the past 13 years and stressed the importance of identifying those who have not paid government dues.
He urged the authorities to take necessary steps to recover outstanding revenues from the tea garden sector. Furthermore, the state minister instructed officials to create detailed documentation on tea-cultivable land, categorizing usable and non-usable areas separately to ensure proper management.
Earlier in the meeting, Habiganj Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Md Abul Hashem provided a briefing on the condition of tea gardens in the district. Additional Secretary of the Land Ministry Md Emdadul Haque Chowdhury, Joint Secretary Johirul Islam, and Deputy Secretary Md Shafikul Islam, among others, were present at the meeting.
