Dhaka: Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon announced in Jatiya Sangsad that the government has launched several initiatives to restore order and quality in the education sector after a recent period of disruption.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, while responding to a scripted question from ruling party lawmaker Md. Abul Kalam, MP (Cumilla-9), Milon reported that academic activities had been partially affected due to past instability. However, the government has now undertaken necessary administrative and academic measures to reinstate a normal educational environment.
The minister highlighted that steps are being taken to resume regular classes and examinations in educational institutions to re-establish an orderly academic atmosphere. A coordinated plan has been developed through the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) to enhance the quality of education.
Under this plan, initiatives such as technology-based education expansion, including 'One Teacher One Tab', free Wi-Fi, multimedia classrooms, and enhanced teacher training, are being executed to modernize education and make learning more effective. Milon also mentioned curriculum and assessment system reforms in collaboration with the National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) and the Technical and Madrasah Education Division. These reforms include introducing third-language learning, expanding vocational education, and institutionalizing ethics education to cultivate students' knowledge, skills, and moral values.
Efforts to promote social, humanitarian, and religious values are underway, with co-curricular activities, documentaries, and quiz-based reward programmes being introduced to raise awareness and prevent social degradation, fostering a positive learning environment.
Additionally, Milon noted the plan to establish a BCS Education Academy to enhance the professional capacity of BCS education cadre officials, aiming to strengthen efficiency and dynamism in education administration.
Under the "NextGen Secondary Education" project, the government plans to introduce modern management systems, including infrastructure development, teacher training, real-time learning monitoring, unified assessment systems, attendance tracking, and teacher performance evaluation. The project proposal is currently pending approval.
The Education Minister expressed optimism that these initiatives will restore stability in the education sector, ensuring a disciplined, modern, and quality learning environment across the country, with continuous efforts in the future.
