Lakshmipur: Lakshmipur police have taken extensive security preparations ahead of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Election and Referendum 2026, placing all 496 polling stations in the district under a strict security blanket for seven days. Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration and Finance) Hossain Mohammad Raihan Kazemi stated that heightened security measures will remain in force from February 8-14.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the district has four parliamentary constituencies, and all polling centres have been categorised based on their importance. Of the total 496 polling stations, 215 have been identified as most important, 198 as important, and 83 as general. This classification aims to streamline security efforts and ensure efficient monitoring across the district.
Police sources have detailed the area-wise distribution of polling centres: Lakshmipur Sadar Model Police Station will oversee 122 centres, Raipur will manage 82, Ramganj will cover 93, Ramgati will handle 67, Kamalnagar will look after 55, and Chandraganj will be responsible for 77 centres. The distribution of importance levels varies in each area to address specific security needs.
Raihan Kazemi further elaborated that each polling station will have two police personnel and 12 Ansar members on duty. In addition, police mobile teams, striking forces, and executive magistrates will be actively present in the field. This comprehensive deployment is supported by 10 platoons of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), along with army, RAB, and plainclothes police members, to maintain law and order throughout the election period.
“The district police are determined to ensure a free, fair, and impartial election for the people of Lakshmipur,” Kazemi affirmed, highlighting the commitment to a smooth electoral process.
