Dhaka: ACI Limited has handed over a cheque amounting to over Taka 1.39 crore to the Bangladesh Labour Welfare Foundation, adhering to the regulations of the Bangladesh Labor Act-2006 (Amended 2018). The contribution represents 0.5 percent of the company's annual dividend.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Labour and Employment and Shipping Adviser Brigadier General (retd) Dr M Sakhawat Hussain announced the donation during a function. He stated that the funds from ACI Limited would be deposited into the Bangladesh Labour Welfare Foundation's fund, which operates under the Ministry of Labor and Employment.
The advisor expressed hope that other major organizations, including various corporate groups, would follow suit and contribute a portion of their dividend money to the foundation. The fund aims to support distressed workers, provide grants for the families of deceased workers, offer student scholarships, and cover emergency medical treatments for workers.
Senior officials including Mohammad Yusuf, the Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Shipping, AHM Shafiquzzaman, the Secretary of the Ministry of Labor and Employment, and Md. Munir Hossain Khan, the Director General of the Bangladesh Labour Welfare Foundation, were present at the event, alongside representatives from ACI Limited.
