Geneva: Labour and Employment Affairs Secretary AHM Shafiquzzaman has announced that the Labour Law-2006 will soon undergo amendments to enhance the welfare of workers, provide social security, and create a conducive work environment.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the announcement came during a meeting with a delegation from Better Work Bangladesh in Geneva. The official release, issued today, highlighted key discussion points such as the International Labour Organization (ILO) roadmap, workplace compensation, social dialogue, ILO conventions, and factory inspection issues.
The labour secretary emphasized that 450 factories in Bangladesh have successfully empowered women and fostered inclusive improvement through initiatives by Better Work Bangladesh, earning global appreciation.
Additionally, 24 factories are set to receive the 'Green Factory Award' to promote environmentally friendly production practices. A workshop focusing on the 'better work programme for workers' welfare' is scheduled for June 17, as per the release.
In an effort to bolster the labour inspection system, 122 new Labour Inspectors are slated for appointment. The meeting was attended by the Director of Better Work Bangladesh, along with its head of policy research and evaluation, head of partnership advocacy and communication, and senior officials from the labour and employment ministry.
