Khulna: Authorities of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) have outlined a set of development initiatives aimed at transforming the institution into a safer, smarter and more modern campus. The decisions were discussed at a view-exchange meeting held at the university conference room on Monday afternoon, chaired by Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Muhammad Masud. Vice presidents, general secretaries of various departments and class representatives of all batches attended the meeting.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the university authorities said a permanent police camp will be established on the campus to strengthen security, subject to government approval already in place. Measures will also be taken to regulate entry of outsiders and introduce time-based restrictions in certain areas during late hours.

As part of digitalisation efforts, a unique ID card system will be introduced for students and teachers, enabling access to services such as the library, medical centre and cafeteria through a single card. A unique coding system for answer scripts will also be introduced to ensure transparency in examinations.

The new academic framework, including revised curriculum, midterm examinations and updated grading systems, will be introduced for the 2025 intake. Students from earlier batches (2021-2024) may opt for the new system based on majority agreement.

On infrastructure development, the VC said separate 10-storey residential halls for male and female students will be constructed within the next one to one and a half years. Under a long-term master plan, existing halls including Rashid Hall and Fazlul Haque Hall will be replaced with modern academic buildings for the EEE, CE and ME departments.

The meeting also discussed increasing allocations for research activities and study tours, along with plans to establish a standard restaurant, pharmacy and salon near the auditorium area.
