Khulna: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mohammad Saiful Islam today instructed relevant authorities to enhance monitoring efforts for the establishment and smooth operation of cattle markets in Khulna for the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha. This directive was issued during the monthly law and order committee meeting for May, held at the conference room of the deputy commissioner's office.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the DC emphasized the importance of vigilance to prevent issues such as the circulation of counterfeit currency, snatching, and unauthorized relocation of livestock to non-designated cattle markets. He also urged for similar measures that were employed during Eid-ul-Fitr to curb black marketing of train and bus tickets and highlighted the necessity of being vigilant so that drug-related crimes do not affect Khulna city's social environment.
Additional Superintendent of Police S.M. Al-Beruni assured the meeting that regular patrolling and special checkpoints are being maintained in various areas under the district police's jurisdiction. A special cybercrime unit is actively working to combat cybercrime, with additional efforts planned to prevent any deterioration of law and order in relation to cattle market management during Eid-ul-Azha.
Md Humayun Kabir, Additional Deputy Commissioner (South) of Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP), reported the arrest of several drug dealers and the seizure of drugs and weapons in recent operations. He added that drug hotspots have been shut down and community meetings are being organized across city wards to raise public awareness against drug use.
Deputy Director of the District Department of Narcotics Control, Md Mizanur Rahman, informed that in April, the district office and police jointly executed 1,563 anti-drug operations, resulting in 127 cases being filed against 146 accused individuals.
Furthermore, Additional District Magistrate Dipankar Dash presented on the law and order situation in Khulna city and district, noting that 15 cases were filed in April.
