Dhaka: Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury has emphasized the importance of government collaboration with NGOs to ensure the effective delivery of public services. He articulated this stance during a program focused on post-flood rehabilitation efforts at the Chattogram Circuit House today.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Finance Minister highlighted that corruption, inefficiency, and poor management in the distribution system result in significant losses. To counteract these issues, the government is initiating partnerships with the private sector and NGOs. This collaboration is not limited to post-flood rehabilitation activities but extends to the government's new economic model, 'Creative Economy', which involves joint efforts from government institutions, the private sector, and NGOs.

Khosru explained that while the government acts as the primary responder by providing emergency assistance during floods, the involvement of various institutions and individuals is necessary for long-term solutions. He stressed the vital role of NGOs and private sector institutions in addressing these challenges in a coordinated manner.

The minister acknowledged that the government cannot directly provide services across all regions. He noted that involving the private sector and NGOs in the service delivery system enhances efficiency and reduces opportunities for waste and corruption. He further mentioned that he has not received any allegations of corruption concerning post-flood relief efforts, which he considers a success for the government.

Khosru also pointed out that the pilot project for distributing family cards recorded only 1.2 percent errors, a low figure in the context of Bangladesh. He assured that there has been no political influence on this program and none is expected in the future. He added that media monitoring plays a crucial role in bolstering the effectiveness of the government's service delivery system.

The event was attended by Divisional Commissioner Dr. Ziauddin, Deputy Commissioner Zahidul Islam Miah, WASA Managing Director Selim Mohammad Jane Alam, CDA Chairman Belayet Hossain, and other senior government officials.
