Khan Jahan Ali Airport to Enhance Economic Growth in Southwest Region: Faridul Islam

Dhaka: State Minister for Forests, Environment and Climate Change Dr. Shaikh Faridul Islam announced today that the development of Khan Jahan Ali Airport is essential for improving connectivity in the southwest region and facilitating the growth of trade, commerce, and tourism. "Once the airport is operational, it will bring unprecedented momentum to the economic activities of Mongla Port, the Sundarbans, and the entire southwest region," he stated.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dr. Islam made these remarks while visiting the airport site at Foila, Bagerhat. He emphasized the government's commitment to resuming construction promptly, ensuring that the airport meets international standards and offers modern facilities. Dr. Islam criticized the previous government's neglect of the project, attributing it to political grievances due to its initiation by former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia.

Dr. Islam also highlighted ongoing discussions with Chinese investors who have shown significant interest in participating in the project. During the inspection, several dignitaries were present, including Bagerhat Zila Parishad Administrator Barrister Sheikh Mohammad Zakir Hossain, KDA Chief Engineer Kazi Sabirul Alam, Rampal Upazila BNP President Alhaj Sheikh Hafizur Rahman Tuhin, Mongla Upazila BNP President Md. Mannan Hawlader, and local BNP leaders alongside representatives of affiliated organizations.
