Dhaka: The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has urged all landlords, tenants, and mess residents in the capital to register their information under the Citizen Information Management System (CIMS). The digital database is seen as a crucial tool in enhancing public safety and fostering technology-driven policing.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the CIMS platform has registered approximately 3,673,238 households to date, with data on more than 5 million residents stored in its database. The software-based CIMS program was initially launched at Ramna Police Station on September 1, 2016, and was subsequently expanded to all police stations across Dhaka in 2017. To facilitate the registration process, a mobile application was introduced in 2019.
Police officials highlighted that the continuously updated database has significantly improved beat policing. It allows for quicker identity verification, streamlined criminal investigations, efficient tracing of missing persons, suspect identification, and enhanced emergency response capabilities. Residents are encouraged to collect CIMS registration forms from their local police stations or outposts, complete them, and submit them back to the concerned authorities. It is also advised that citizens retain a photocopy of the completed form for future reference, and those changing addresses must re-register at the new location.
The DMP emphasized the benefits for landlords, as the system aids in verifying the identities of potential tenants, thereby reducing the likelihood of unknowingly housing criminals or fraudsters and minimizing unnecessary legal issues. Tenants, on the other hand, gain direct access to their designated beat officers, allowing for quicker police assistance when necessary.
By underscoring CIMS as an effective tool for crime prevention and investigation, the DMP has strengthened the coordination between police and the public, making community policing more effective. Reaffirming its dedication to creating a safe, smart, and crime-free Dhaka, the DMP has called on every landlord, tenant, and mess resident in the capital to complete CIMS registration and contribute to the city's overall security.
